The Binding of Issac Review (18+)

I swear that I didn't purposely search for bloody and gory games during exam week  but by chance I came across this game on Ocean of Games website (lots of free download games there). Without hesitation I just hit the download button and I am obsessed about it until today. Even thought I enjoy its platform type gameplay, there is a bit controversial about the storyline of this game (ahh usually this is the thing that attracts people's attention). Compared to Catherine and The Witch's House, the storyline of this game is relatively unimportant, in my opinion.

This is the image that caught my eye. I have no idea what it is about until I downloaded it.

The main character, Issac (obviously it's him) was a little boy living happily with his mother, until one day, his mother heard god's voice saying that he was sinned. Eventually, Issac was deprived from his toys, his freedom and finally his mother wanted to kill him. He ran and jumped into an open trapdoor. That's where you begin the game. You kill monsters (tons of them with different characteristics and difficulties), collect weird stuffs that enhance or degrade your power (you will feel surprised that Issac will have a different look according to the stuff you collected), gamble (hahaha yeah, literally gamble), trade with the devil and lastly, defeat the bosses. If you die, you will have to start allllllll over again, but no worries, you won't feel like you are replaying the same stuff because the map arrangement will be different, so does everything. Unless you have died many times, or else you won't feel that frustrated, hahaha.

suteF

(Image taken from Rotten Tater website)
SPOILER! This is no ordinary platform game...
For a good game (even if it is a platform game), the background story is important because it is something that drive you to overcome the obstacles level by level. However, for this game, I do not quite understand the whole storyline which is quite confusing to me. Even though I tried to understand the story by reading through the blog of suteF after I played the game but I still get no clue. All I want to do was to help Aramas (the name of the main character you are controlling) to get the hell out of the eerie place and back to the reality. And it is obvious that the boss is named 'Fetus' which does not seem to die no matter how many times you pierce it using the laser beam until a spirit-like creature that looks like you gorges its eye out (blood and gore!!!).
You can see heaps of carcasses in that game. A contrast of blue and red.

The escaping screen and a 'I-don't-know-what-is-that' monster.
(Image taken from Volcod website)
The fetus (which will multiply in size each time you kill it).

Again it is a 2D pixellated game which successfully caught my attention (I swear it is not because of the bloody scenes!) that I cracked my head for hours to finish the whole game. You have to press on switch, move crates and reverse the gravity so that you can get to the screen to proceed to the next level (for the last chapter there is no more screen though, it changes into an upward force as you go after the Fetus). Sometimes you work alone, sometimes you have a backpack that allows you to use clamp, sometimes with some other blue man which looks like you. Actually I am not sure whether I have really completed it because although it showed 'end' at the end of the game, there seems to be one chapter left to be unlocked. Besides, I like the font and the sound effects used which give more bonus to this game.

It is a very old game published back in 2010 and people are still playing it! You can download it here. If you figure out what is going on, please do tell me in the comment! Warning: You might be driven crazy for getting stuck at some levels for a long time, hahaha...

Flash Games Recommendations [from Game Jolt, no download needed]

For almost twenty years I am not able to play 3D games without getting myself a nausea which would last for hours. Tomb Raider, Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Prince of Persia, Bio Shock etc. especially those action ones. And I believe even if I overcome the nausea problem I will still be unable to play the game because those games are simply too tough for me. I get frustrated easily when playing a game so a complicated one is definitely a no no. An awesome game in my opinion is either it has a very nice graphic (nice graphic does not exist in 3D only) or a very good and unexpected storyline. And overall it has to be clean and neat, nothing is overdone.

Platform games can be boring because they look universal. You have to avoid monsters (or kill them), pick up power-up and at the end reach the check point like Mario (legendary!). Here's some platform games from Game Jolt that require no downloading. They are pretty good in their unique ways. Enjoy!

Simple colour and nice soundtrack.
(Screenshot from Game Jolt)
1) Persist
So you are a while spirit-like thing who seeks forgiveness from a cruel goddess who slowly takes away your arms (ability to swim), your legs (ability to jump) and your body (you can barely see your own presence). You have to survive through all the trials handicapped (yeah this should be the right word) and at the end been forgiven as you give up your life for 'her' in the story.

Three of you move parallelly in a not parallel universe. LOL
(Screenshot from Game Jolt)
2) Parallel 2
So you have to control three tiny people at the same time with only one set of control towards the check point in three different surroundings. Multi-functioning of your brain is a must. You must have no bias towards anyone of them. Or I should put it this way, you should set your priority so that all of them can reach the check points at the same time.

I fell in love with the rabbit. Cute, right?
(Screenshot from Game Jolt)
3) Tim_
So this is a very cute platform game where you are a rabbit and there are lots of crocodiles. The angry ones are bad (who are overprotective over their eggs) while the smiley ones are good but annoying, haha. As the game progresses, I found out that actually the rabbit is the villain who kills the crocodile king and be the king. As overall, it is a cute game. (Psst. The rabbit can freeze time)

A cute love story like the one from Warm Bodies, haha.
(Screenshot from Game Jolt)
4) I saw her standing there
So you saw her standing there...and? Well you fell in love with a zombie girlfriend and you have to lure her and keep her in a cage when there are other zombies around trying to kill you. At the end...you got bitten by your girlfriend and you two carry on your life happily ever after. LOL. After you complete the game, you will unlock some 'cheats' which can make the game more challenging.

The hot air balloon.
(Image taken form Youtube)
5) Moky SOS
So this is quite a new game and it already got some 5/5 reviews. The concept is very simple. Blow at the hot air balloon so that it reaches some pity fellas on some deserted places and send them to the checkpoint platform. Those fellas cannot board the hot air balloon if the balloon lands on the group, it should be afloat so that they can climb the rope stair. Besides, don't let the balloon hit the obstacles, or else some of the fellas will fall out and die.

Bad Dream: Hospital - Walkthrough [how to get another ending]

(Screenshot)
SPOILERS BELOW
Yeah I skipped the walkthrough of Bad Dream: Graveyard because I don't find it necessary to give any help in finishing the game since there is only one ending and you will have no problem in finishing it. Instead of losing your fingers in Bad Dream: Butcher, your teddy bear will lose its limbs and body and at the end...everyone will be beheaded and you stick your teddy bear's head on a dead body. I don't get what it means either, just enjoy the weirdness, hahaha. So for this episode, the background is a mental hospital (as expected) and you are required to do colouring on a picture. The normal ending people will get is by colouring the picture with poop, urine, blood, vomit etc. *eww* and realise that you will get a box of crayons at the end of the game actually *speechless*. You will be told that you can try to get another ending by colouring with crayons only. It's pretty easy to reach that ending as long as you behave normally. Don't touch the blood, don't touch the vomit, don't stab anyone.

1) Look at the piece of paper beside the door

2) Go out of your room (it's room 15), go into WC

3) Touch everything EXCEPT the toilet

4) Go back to the corridor, go up the corridor, enter the cafeteria on your left

5) Get the empty bucket, go back to WC

6) Fill the bucket with water at the sink, flush the toilet

7) Pick up the key, go to room 14 (opposite of cafeteria)

8) Pick up the knife and dirty plate, don't do anything else

9) Go to cafeteria, put the knife and plate on the counter

10) Go back to corridor, go up the corridor, enter room 13

11) Take the sticker on the guy's tshirt, don't do anything else

12) Go back to WC, place the sticker over the eye on the wall

13) Fill the bucket at the sink again, go to cafeteria

14) Enter the previously locked door, pick up the rag on the crate

15) Go to room 13, clean up the vomit

16) Dispose of the dirty rag into any dustbin (there is one in the cafeteria, one in WC, you can find it somewhere else)

17) Go back to the corridor in front of room 13 (you will see a nurse there), go up the corridor

18) Enter room 12, pick up the needle on the floor, don't do anything else

19) Go back to corridor, go up the corridor, enter the room on the left

20) Pick up the key, enter the room opposite to room 12

21) Pick up the stethoscope on the table, the thread on top of the shelf, don't do anything else

22) Give the stethoscope to the nurse, go down the corridor until you see a vending machine

23) Get urine sample from the vending machine, flush it down the toilet

24) Go to the room inside cafeteria, fill the container up with poison

25) Go to the room where you get the last key, poison the snake-like monster

26) Get a thermometer from the dead body, go back to the corridor

27) Place the thermometer at the heater below the window, show the thermometer to the nurse

28) Go back to the room where you got the thermometer, give the nurse the needle and thread

29) Go back to the corridor, enter the Day Room

30) Pick up the crayons and go back to your room to finish the colouring

The mad doctor appears as soon as you finish colouring. Got this screenshot just in time.

I don't understand this...

Bad Dream: Butcher - Walkthrough [how to prevent losing any finger]

(Screenshot)
SPOILERS BELOW
Cheating is bad, but I still do it when playing computer games, hahaha... However for indie games it is quite difficult to get a written walkthrough that we have to go through the forum to see if somebody has posted about it. So after many many times of trying, I manage to note down step by step of how to prevent your finger from being chopped off in Bad Dream: Butcher (and yeah I did refer to forums when I was stuck). You are encouraged to try the whole game at least once on your own. Besides following the instruction below, do not touch anything else on the screen because it might cause you to lose a finger. When the butcher appears, don't panic, escape calmly.

1) Go into the tunnel, then go to the left hand side of the door 73
[Do not touch the shattered glass on the floor]

2) At the graveyard, pick up the twig

3) Go back to the place at the beginning, then go to your right
[Do not touch the monster]

4) Pick up the hammer

5) Search the right bin (the one without the monster sitting on it) for key of door 33

6) Go to the right, search the bin to get maggot

7) Go to the right again, then enter the tunnel*, pick up the cooking glove

8) Go back to the beginning place, pick up the sharp glass on the floor

9) Go back to the place where you got the glove, pierce the eye on the wall

10) Exit the tunnel*, enter the door on the right which is now open

11) Go upstairs, pick up the key on the shelf on your right

12) Cut the rope of the hanging man, get into the hole appears

13) Pick up the coiled wire on your left, pick up the shovel hung on the wall

14) Leave the whole building, click on the left side of the building
[Pick any one out of the four key on the floor then open the door, if fail, try another key]

15) Go to the left, open the door 51

16) Pick up the mouse trap after using the twig

17) Leave the house and go to the graveyard

18) Dig the grave
[go to the right, when you see the door go to the left instead of right (that is a mirror image, you will notice that if you see the inverted door number), then go to the right]

19) Go back to the graveyard, get the key from the skull

20) Use the key to open the door 73, pick up the key on the bed

21) Use the key to open the bakery door, pick up a twine

22) Go back to door 33
[Do not touch the box with question marks]

23) Catch a rat at the hole

24) Bring that rat to the monster

25) Search the bin previously beneath the monster to get a hook

26) Go back to the beginning place, use the wire on the pipe, get the wet rag

27) Go back to door 73, get a fish from the toilet bowl

28) Get the pot on the stove

29) Fill the pot with the water from the pipe

30) Go back to door 51, place the pot on the stove, put in the dead fish

Bad Dream: Series - Review

(Image taken from gamejolt.com)

A ten-week semester break honestly is a little bit too long for me. I was determined to make this assignment-free holidays useful and beneficial but almost half of the time I am just wasting my life away doing things that I don't even remember what I have done. Slacking around makes me feel guilty because I have better things to do but I am willing to spend some time on a good game so that the time 'wasted' is not actually wasted, haha. However, the game I am going to share this time is just weird. Plain weird. Maybe I am not weird enough to understand what's going on for the whole series except the last one which makes some senses to me (like everyone else I think the last one is the best). Since it is named Bad Dream, so I guess there is no need to make any sense. Sometimes you don't remember nightmares that you had after you wake up.

The developer of indie game. I couldn't find his website, so maybe he does not have one.
(Image taken from gamejolt.com)

Spoiler Alert!!!!!!! Just kidding, haha...

If you are looking for something to do to kill your time and you like arts (there is a wide variety of arts you know, I consider this as one of the arts), this series of game made by Desert Fox that I found on Game Jolt might be suitable for you. What you have to do in the game is just clicking around (if you are simply too lazy to figure out what is what) until you get the endings. Each episode is very short and you can finish all of the episodes within one hour. The game looks like very simple hand drawn sketches with yellow background (I love yellow!) and its soundtrack is clean. There is no spoiler in this post as it is not needed (or should I say I am too lazy to figure out what I have played). You can play it in a relaxing way although there is blood and gore. You don't even have to think of which tool to use because as long as you picked up the tool, it will be used automatically at places it should be used. Something might appear to creep you out but it is not a big deal for me (so I believe you won't freak out too).

Bad Dream episodes:
Butcher
Graveyard
Hospital
Cyclops
Memories

By the way, I saw an update on its facebook page that there will be a Prologue in Bad Dream: Coma coming out. Actually I am wondering what makes this indie game getting quite a lot of good reviews. Just. Weird.

P/S: I would like to know if you guys have any thought on this game because I am just curious. Walkthroughs coming up! Stay tuned!

One Shot - Review

I am feeling complicated after finishing this game. This is the game that you should play it on your own instead of watching someone else playing it! Download the game here now and play it before continue reading this post or else you will regret! What I can say without giving spoilers is this game gave me surprises that I never thought I can feel so bonded with a virtual character in a mere 2D pixellated computer game. I thought that only horror games can really trigger your inner feelings (in this case, fear), but this one changes my view towards 2D RPG games (the first one that changed my view towards computer games was The Witch's House). Getting a good game (and free one) to play is becoming difficult, but I am glad that I came across this game on rmn website. This game got lots of excellent reviews and a very high rating from people. So I gave it a try and now I am left amazed, writing this review right away!

Warning!!! Your scrolling should stop here!!! Play the game!!! Spoiler ahead!!!

The main character named Niko, a boy with cat eyes (cats are always mysterious, right?). Wait, you are not the main character, but you are you, the nerd (probably you are one, hahaha) sitting in front of the screen! So you play as 'god' to guide Niko, the 'messiah' in saving the world which is at the edge of getting destroyed as the sun is gone (relax, it's nothing religious). You have to solve puzzles (I tried to get some hints on internet when I stuck but couldn't find anything. So I got a little bit of help from my brother at the beginning and lots of lucks near the end of the game) which might make you feel dumb (at least it did that to me, hahaha) and at the end you have to decide Niko's and the world's fate: to save Niko or to save the world. Niko will get a light bulb (which is the sun of the world) and try to put it back to where it belongs to so that the dim world can be lit up again. But you can choose to shatter the bulb into pieces so that Niko can go home again.

The story line of the game sounds pretty common like hero-rescues-the-world type. What makes it so special is that you can only play the once (that's why the name of this game is 'oneshot'), which means you cannot quit the game in the middle of progress (which will lead to Niko's death) or replay the game at all means (you can replay it on other computers or reformat your computer though). It is a life or death decision, once you make the choice, there is no way you are going to undo it or load the game like other games you played. Maybe this gives you a little bit of stress to take the game more seriously. Another point that causes the decision making even difficult is that you can interact with the game. The game knows your name and will mess around with your computer and IT IS JUST SO REAL. As if the game is alive, Niko is alive, and the shits are getting real (so imagine if they use this concept in a horror game, woooo). Yeah you will have simple interactions with Niko which is quite sweet but this leads to your reluctance in final decision-making at the end of the game. Besides, the puzzles are cleverly designed that you need to work your rusted brain a bit harder or you will end up feeling frustrated. Look out of the box (this is an important hint *wink*) and get the clue.

Despite being a 2D computer game, the graphic is beautiful. Niko looks just so adorable and lovable. The soundtrack receives compliments from others but I find it somehow disturbing to me that I feel nausea when listening to it for too long (so I took off my earpieces sometimes). The whole concept of this game is new to me but I am not sure whether you will be impressed (hopefully it does!). The developer of this game should really get the credits!

Catherine Review (18+)

There are plenty of movies or novels named after someone's name like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Peter Pan,  or even song names such as Billie Jean and Hey Jude. For me, usually things named after the main character name whom I am not familiar with or not famous will not attract my attention. I was watching Pewdiepie's gaming video one day (it has become a daily routine since he uploads at least one video every day, hahaha) and watched this video where he and a couple of other gamers playing Plants vs Zombies. One of them were Cryaotic, a youtube gamer quite famous of his voice. So I found that it has been some time since I last watched his videos. I scanned through his channel and saw this game called Catherine. The name was not special but I just randomly clicked on it. After I watched the first part, I decided to continue watching the whole series because there are something that really interested me (when I was writing this post I have not done watching the whole thing, unlike other gaming reviews which I have done after I finished everthing, I just can't wait to share this!)

My first impression towards this game after I finished watching the first part of the gameplay by Cry, there were a few key terms in my mind about this game: sheep, church, bell, light, hymn, angel, someone taking care of the sheep, and keep climbing up so that you will reached 'freedom'. It is everything sounds positive in Christianity, but actually this game illustrates Christianity in a wrong direction. It gives people a really wrong concept towards Christianity (maybe you would say, 'nah, why so serious? It's just a game.'), it's just not right to mislead people in religious things or being sarcastic of it. I do not hate this game, just want to tell you guys that, this is not real Christianity, it's a game, make it clear and it is quite a nice game that I would love to own one. Only after I watched the second part the story line became clear to me.

Spoiler Alert!!!

This game is a combination of puzzles and making choices which will lead to various endings. The main character here (the one you are controlling) is not Catherine though, he's Vincent Brooks who has a girlfriend named Katherine (yeah Katherine, no typo here). And one night he got drunk in the bar and slept with a cute girl as shown in the poster above named Catherine. Since then, he has nightmares every single night that he will be trapped in a place where all the cheating men will be thrown in (as heard in rumours)and he has to keep climbing so that he will not die in the dream, which will lead to death in reality. Here comes the puzzle. Vincent has to keep climbing up blocks by blocks by moving them around to create staircases and get onto the top before the rest of the blocks below collapse. You won't have much time to think the next move as the bottom part of the blocks will fall apart little by little. Technically you are being chased by the disaster from the bottom so that you won't fall to your death while competing with other sheep who have the same fate as yours. They need to get on top too just like you and they even might shove you down so that you won't get into their way to stay alive (of course you can do that to them too). Although that is just a puzzle game, the graphic and sound effects make the whole thing awesome and thrilling. There are a total of eight floors where a cathedral is the final destination, which is the 'freedom' towards everything men suffer there. As the stages go (each floor might has several stages), the 'trial' becomes longer with more and more traps (they call each stage of puzzle 'trial') which is really difficult as I watched the progress (many many retries he did). Back to the story, there are news where men keep dying suddenly in sleep and rumours about cheating men are cursed to death in nightmares. All the reactions done by Vincent (decided by you) will lead to his inner voice towards the complicated relationships he has. He is being torn apart from Katherine (his original girlfriend who is pregnant and wants to marry him) and Catherine (a girl who wants to be his girlfriend and already is, somehow).

Cry chose Katherine rather than Catherine in this game. So Vincent breaks up with Catherine but he loses Katherine too. It is a very complicated story because Catherine does not really exist in the reality as no one except Vincent sees her. She disappears after the break up totally. All the information about her is gone. At the end Vincent finds out that the bartender is behind all these dreams. He is the 'god' that creates the illusions in men, causing them to cheat to end their current relationship because of some ******* reasons (really does not make sense to me). Vincent wants the 'god' to take responsibility of what he has done to him. So he accepts the challenge to go for the stages beyond the cathedral, the 'heaven' (this really makes me feeling uneasy). Cry got the good ending where Vincent and Katherine planned to marry each other.

I do not want to watch the other endings played by other gamers because this game was making me feeling uneasy. At the beginning it was interesting but it is really a depressing game with all the misunderstandings between people, tragedies in relationships, deaths etc. And it gives people the wrong thinking that you have to go through all the sufferings in order to be 'baptised' and gain freedom. This is not right in Christianity. Yes we are lambs of God but we are saved through God's love towards us as His children, no climbing stuff, ok? (ah am I getting too serious on this?)

Yeah, the guy in boxers and holding a pillow, has horns on his head is Vincent. Every other sheep there are people like him but he will only see them as sheep, they will also see Vincent as sheep. (image from www.gamespot.com)
One of the bosses in the puzzles who looks like Katherine in wedding gown, trying to get your life, creepy. (image from pinoytutorial.com)
The Landing, which is the place you will reach after each stage of puzzle and you will go into the confession room behind the curtain to answer a question. The results of all the players will be compiled into a pie chart which you will view afterward to see what is the answer others chose. (image from cheatcc.com)

Ok before I end this post let us see it as a pure game, ignoring the theme. Besides the sound effects and graphics, another thumbs-ups for this game are you can receive or send texts on your cell phone and also interact with other people in the bar. It is quite dynamic that topics of conversations change every time and people come and leave. Compared to games with the same NPCs (non-player characters) with the same caption all the time, it is much more interesting as you can see the progress, and your interactions with them can decide their fates, too. This is not the first blocks-moving puzzle that I have ever seen but this definitely is a creative one especially the traps (ice blocks, spike blocks, bomb blocks and many more).

Well, my final thoughts about this game, I won't want to watch it anymore. It's like The Hunger Games, once is enough, to me. Hope that my next gameplay walkthrough review will not be a depressing one.

P/S: Catherine is only available on Playstation or Xbox (too bad, I only own a PC), and you can buy it here.

The Witch's House - Novel

(Image from the website)
I have written the game review for The Witch's House some time ago. It is one of the most successful 2D pixelated horror games that I have ever seen. It portraits how horrifying a witch can be (since my perspective towards witches was twisted by the Harry Potter series. Oh well, I have no idea what witch actually is, whether they are good or bad or are they even exist) and yeah, the storyline is really scary.

For those who are not into gaming thing, here is the chance for you to enjoy the story without having to play the game! The whole story was being transferred into words, turning it into a horror novel. There are more emotions inside the novel, more monologues that allow us to see through the thoughts of Ellen and Viola, the two main characters of the story. We can see the background of the two characters and how Ellen turned into a witch from an innocent girl. Not going to give anymore spoiler here, hehe. Just read it, here.

P/S: It hurted my eyes for staring at the screen reading the lines of words although I had enlarged the size of the words. Nice reading, anyway.

Mad Father Review (18+)

(Google image)
Ok this week is the test week for most of us in University Putra Malaysia so I am completing this post (which was forsaken months ago, haha) to distract my focus on stresses that I had these few days (usually my stresses are not about exams, it's more to assignments, lab reports, events and relationships with people). This time I don't recommend you guys to watch Pewdiepie playing it because his series is not whole which left me confused about the whole game as he skipped a lot in the videos. Since there are a lot more youtuber-gamers out there, I chose Markiplier (I like his accent, haha) after randomly browsing through youtube without having the idea which one is better. No comparison was made.

Mad Father, it the second best 2D horror game after The Witch's House, in my opinion. I think a good 2D RPG game should be detailed in every little things in the scenes and also the story. I have played some games which is not detailed enough to make me attach to the game causing me to give up not even half way through the game. Mad Father is the most detailed 2D horror game I have ever seen (yes I didn't play this one too, it's too tough for me). You get descriptions from every objects that you encounter (I think this is important as we know whether the object is useful for us in the game or not, or else we will be easily confused and eventually stop playing it, just like me). Descriptions make the game looks real and alive. Compared to The Witch's House, there are more 'behind the scenes' in the as you play the game, with a lot of minor characters with unique background stories behind them.

Spoiler Alert!

So here is my interpretation regarding this story. The 'mad father' is a character in the game who is referred as 'doctor' named Alfred. He is Aya's (the main character which you control in the game) father whose wife died when Aya was young. He has an assistant named Maria (she is his lover too) who works with him in preserving the 'beauty' of human beings, which means preserving human corpse to retain the beauty seen. Mad father had the habits of killing small animals since childhood and eventually he killed his parents. The background of mad father is really psychotic which leads him in doing all these things. There are lots of dolls which looked real in his mansion and all sort of bloody things in the basement where he does the 'experiments'. He tries his best in avoiding Aya from getting hurt and eventually he wants to turn her into one of the dolls to preserve his beautiful daughter.

(Google image)
The game started when Aya heard his father's scream at midnight and found that the mansion was cursed. She had to find ways to rescue her father, her only relative in this world after her mother's death. There were dead body walking everywhere which would chase after you. You will encounter a lot of the mad father's experimental subjects each with their own stories (there are really a lot, so I can't mention one by one here) and try to help them by fulfilling their wish or solving their problems. There was one special character named Dio, a boy (also an experimental subject) who was sent by Aya's mother to help her to escape from all the mess her father created. Of course he was sacrificed at the end of the game with the burning mansion although most people hope that he would live happily ever after with Aya. He is a corpse anyway, that would not happen.
(Google image)
There is something strange about Aya's personality. She seemed calm throughout the game where there were blood and gores everywhere. Besides some 'yucks' or yelling, she gave normal response to the living deads as if they were quite normal to her. Besides, a little girl like her could operate a chainsaw. This is really...umm...I don't know what to say. After all she grew up under her father's care and influence.
(Google image)
Just like other similar 2D RPG games, there are three endings. The good one, the bad one and the secret one (which appears if you collected all the gems hidden in the game). Ah, I have forgotten what are the endings (procrastination kills memories!!!!!!!!). I remembered that at the end, Aya lived happily ever after with Maria, as a 'doctor' just like her father. I was like 'WHAT' when I saw the ending. Ok, no one said that she became a doctor like her father, but what she did indicated that she was doing what her father did, the way she complimented the patient's eyes.

P/S: This is the download link. I did not expose much about the information in this game but I wish that you guys can try playing it on your own. Plenty of violences but with a story that would last long in your head. You know, I do not normally watch or play violent games, but when I do...there are only a few. Hahahahaha...

Nightmare Review (18+)

Hello guys! This is another 2D horror game named 'Nightmare' by Bayard Zylos which I played it all on my own (except a Google search which I believe was unavoidable due to my lack of knowledge, haha). The story is not very new to me but I still consider it as worth playing. Lucky me that when I found this game on Pewdiepie's fans' forum, it is the updated version where the game maker has fixed most of the bugs and updated the game making it more interesting. The game can be downloaded here where you can find most of the introduction about the game by the game maker. It begins when you wake up in a hotel, alone. (I don't plan to write about the intro of the game as everything is stated in the website)

Spoiler Alert!!!

I wrote these based on my own point of view and it is not necessarily true (you know, I am not experienced in playing puzzle games and there might be misinterpretations). According to the game maker, there are two endings, the good one and the bad one. I eventually got the good ending (thank God) and I am lazy to replay it to get another ending as I have no idea where is the turning point of the game. So the following summary of the story was written based on the good ending.

The main character of this game was involved in a road accident at route 26 with another car with a young girl and her parents in it, causing the mother's death. The mother who suffered a crash in her skull begged him to end her pain, so he took his hammer in the car and gave her a fatal blow. In this game the main character was actually fighting the guilt in his heart that prevented him from waking up from a coma as a result of the committing suicide after the road accident. He seemed like had lost his memories and was trying to pull his mind together in this game to find out what's going on, which means that everything in this game happens in his inner heart. At the end he won over the confusion and struggling on his inner heart and gained the hope to recover from brim of death. Correct me if I am wrong about the storyline, haha.

There are three levels to be choosen from in this game: Timid, Normal and Brave (you know what I chose, right?). Compared to The Witch's House (sorry but I can't help to compare other 2D horror games with this one, it becomes my standard for horror games), it is less violent (erm, I don't count blood splashed everywhere as violence but things like cutting limbs off etc) and less jumpscares. Jumpscare to me is the part of the horror games that increase our adrenaline pump and makes us feel afraid. There is not much jumpscare in it but due to my impatience which caused my character to dash around the scene I often 'accidentally' ran into the 'shadow', then there was a loud scream and game over. Haha. Silly me. So I started to walk slowly, step by step, somehow I still ran into the 'shadow'. Over all, I managed to complete the whole game, so in general it should not be a problem to you guys. The puzzles are challenging too! You have to relate one thing to another in order to solve it.

Well, I have done stupid things in the game, such as running down the seemed-like endless road for minutes (that is already considered as long). If you find that something is wrong, change the way you play or else you might get stuck somewhere forever. This game is more to a puzzle game rather than a horror game to me. Your main mission is to solve the puzzles while dodging the evil 'shadow' of a woman that seemed to haunt you. Being too focus in solving the puzzles leads you to run into her which showed up unexpectedly out of no where (I believe that soul-like thing can teleport, haha).

Anyway, I survived this horror game! My key of survival:
  • always choose a 2D game rather than 3D one (you don't want to scare yourself in reality, right?)
  • always play the game during broad day light (light always defeats darkness, keep this in mind)
  • always play the game around people (make sure you won't die of fear alone)
  • never use a headphone (you still can tune up the volume and make yourself jump)
  • always keep some distances between you and the screen (so that you won't be sucked into the horrible world of the game)
  • if there is an option, always go for the easiest one (or you will definitely give up playing it unless you are a pro)

P/S: I rated this as 18+ although it's not that blood and gore. Death which is not caused by old age is still a bad thing to me.

Mid-sem Break Update #6: Fran Bow (demo) Review (18+)

(Google image)

So this is my second review for a computer game named 'Fran Bow' after 'The Witch House' which I actually played the demo without any cheating! I came across this game from the youtuber Cinnamon ToastKen (I didn't watch him playing the game, really) when I was looking for some free 2D horror games to play (my idle mind keeps asking me to do something that I shouldn't do, ugh).

I spent about just half an hour to finish the demo (we have to buy the game). The story is about a girl named Fran whose parents were killed and dismembered (yes, blood and gore). She escaped from her house with her black cat, Mr. Midnight into the forest and she fainted. Waking up in the Oswald Asylum, an oppressive mental institution for children, she determined to find her cat and look for the murderer of her parents. Before that, she had to look for aunt Grace whom she was fond of. The demo ends when you successfully open the door leading to the outside world of the mental institution.

In the game, you can interact with people and things there. The choice of your words will decide the outcome that you will get, so choose your words wisely. I love the 2D art graphics (as I feel dizzy if I watch 3D gaming) which easily brings out the horror. No worries for those who are timid (like me)! There is no jumpscare at all. What you have to do is to solve the puzzles to get the way out. As Fran is a child struggling with mental disorder, there are some red pills that will give her different vision of the world (a bloody one) that will help her in solving the puzzles.

The demo is made by Killmonday to raise fund for the development of this game through the campaign. So far they have reached their goal and the game will be released in July 2014! Here's the link of the official website of Fran Bow: http://franbow.com/. How I wish that I can play this game but good games usually require payment. Anyway, you guys can download the free demo to give it a try. If you like the game, just wait patiently for it to be released!

P/S: Aww the black cat did not show up in the demo. I will keep searching a good horror game to play, bwahahahahaha.......
(how? well, youtube is always a good source, haha)

The Witch's House Review (18+)

I had been addicted to watching indie horror games walk-throughs on Youtube by Toby Turner and Pewdiepie at midnight weeks ago (I have no idea why would I do that as I am super coward when it comes to any horror-related things) and I found this interesting game called The Witch's House (and it is also the first indie horror game I 'watched'). It was created by Fummy in Japanese for free download (English version) a few years ago.

It has one of the best yet sad storyline for a horror games. The story is about a girl named Viola who was waiting for her father in a forest went into a huge mansion of a witch named Ellen and tried to escape safely. This is what we know at the beginning of the game. However there are three endings: the good but false one, the true one and the secret one. Usually we will get the good ending and be like 'aww...' but the true ending is too overwhelming for me to accept at first. Oh I want to say that I didn't finish the game although I downloaded it. Instead I watched Toby playing the whole game on Youtube (he did the good ending one only, so if you want to watch the other endings you probably have to look for it from other Youtubers such as Pewdiepie). Part of the reasons I didn't finish it is because it is too scary for me to play alone and even though I have known all the details of the game I am lacking of skills to go through the tough parts (it has been a long time I didn't play games that require quick reaction, so...).

As you can see it is not a typical 3D horror game like The Haunted House or The Slender Man but the 'horror' effect turns out perfect with blood and lots of jumpscares. I never thought that with graphic like this can give us goosebumps but it really does! Besides that, the puzzles to be solved are challenging and well-designed that you could be stuck in the middle of the game until you figure out the clue. No worries! You can easily find the answers for each puzzle from the internet. Youtube is especially useful. I am not going to mention about how to go through the game as it can be found with just a click.

SPOILER ALERT !
This is the true story behind the false illusion (if you prefer to have surprises by playing the game on your own please kindly skip this part) :

The story is about the betrayal of two friends, namely Ellen and Viola. Ellen was a girl with purple hair whose parents did not love her as she was suffering from terrible sickness. She felt that no one in this world loved her. She killed her parents and met a black cat, the devil. The cat brought her to a mansion in the forest and promised her to grant her health if she gave him human souls to devour as the devil without a physical form could not hunt down humans. So Ellen who became a witch stayed in the mansion and did what she was told.
Then she met Viola, a kind-hearted girl with golden braids and they became friends. Viola felt sympathetic towards Ellen whose health condition was getting worse and worse that she could not even leave her bed. She continued to be at Ellen's side in spite of Ellen's sickness. One day Ellen asked Viola to exchange body with her as she wanted to be free from the sufferings for just one day. Viola who was too kind to refuse her request agreed.
However, before they exchanged their body, Ellen cut off her legs and gouged out her eyes so that when Viola got her body she could not move and see. She wanted to claim Viola's body as her own to continue surviving as she knew that her body could not stand any longer. After the magic was done, she even gave Viola (who was in Ellen's body) a throat-burning potion that caused Viola unable to speak as she did not want to hear her own scream of pain. Despite their friendship, Ellen (who owned Viola's body) broke their agreement.

It means that starting from the beginning of the game, the character that player controlled is actually Ellen in Viola's body and the witch in the mansion is actually Viola who suffered on behalf of Ellen. Viola tried to trap Ellen in the mansion but as Ellen was the owner of the mansion she was guided by the mansion through notes sticking on the wall to pass through all the obstacles. In the end, Ellen escaped from the mansion with Viola chasing behind her until they met Viola's father. Appeared to be eyeless and legless, Viola was thought to be the monster and was shot by her own father. Ellen, who has the appearance of Viola lived a happy ever after life with Viola's father. She was finally being loved again, as Viola.

Very sad, isn't it? Sad and scary at the same time. I like the story although it has a bad ending as I think it is beautiful in some ways? Ah, nevermine. By the way, these are some fan arts that I found and I would like to share them with you guys!

P/S: I watched my brother playing the game before and his reaction when he faced jumpscares was amusing, haha. Well, I am still feeling scared when I recall about the game (without playing it, I am just so so chicken).
